UHNMAC arrays: gene expression
home services platforms UHNMAC arrays: gene expression

Service includes:

  • Total RNA quality checked with Agilent BioAnalyzer ($10 fee is charged if RNA quality deemed too low quality to proceed with the experiment)
  • Labelling of two RNA samples per array with cyanine-3 and cyanine-5 (one control/universal reference and one experimental). The UHNMAC may choose to substitute Alexa dyes for the cyanine dyes. For all experiments, the dyes will be kept consistent.
  • Hybridisation/washing/scanning of arrays
  • Image files sent to customer (CD or FTP)
  • Spot quantification (ArrayVision™)
We also offer an optional data analysis service. Please enquire directly for more information.

For an additional fee, we offer amplification of 5-100 ng of total RNA using the Ovation Nanosample RNA Amplification kit from NuGEN Technologies. This method was found to have the highest amplification fidelity and reproducibility, in our hands, when compared with the standard amino-allyl labelling method and other RNA amplification methods. Please inquire about cost of RNA amplification of small samples (>5 ng total RNA)

Please note: Due to reduced demand of our in-house printed cDNA microarrays, they will be discontinued by July 31st, 2010. They will only be made available for on-going projects with minimum order requirement. Please contact for details.

Pricing: Please contact us. (last updated: January 2011)
Please note that this pricing is for academic groups. Commercial customers should contact us for a quote.

Please note that special paperwork is required for shipping biological samples from locations outside of Canada. For the Customs documentation that you will need, please download this form . Once you send us this information, the UHN Customs Officer will generate the appropriate Customs document and send it to you via e-mail. This document must be included with the waybill on your package.

Turnaround time: A typical experiment of 6-12 slides takes about 2-3 weeks (including the optional data analysis service) from the time we receive the RNA, verify its integrity on the Agilent Bioanalyzer, and order the arrays. Once the arrays have been ordered, you will be notified of the estimated completion time.

Gene expression profiling is also available on the Agilent, Affymetrix, and Illumina array platforms.
